About Cal Poly’s Swanton Pacific Ranch
Cal Poly’s Swanton Pacific Ranch is an outpost for opportunities in research, education and training on a working ranch that implements three agriculture operations (ccof U-pick apple orchard, FSC certified selective harvest forestry, and grass-fed natural beef) using best management practices. Some of this area is also leased for production of organic culinary herbs. It’s nearly 3200 acres were donated by the late Al Smith to be held as a living and learning laboratory for students from Cal Poly State University and beyond. Please go to http://www.spranch.org/about.ldml for more details.
In recent years the Ranch has hosted several workshops, symposiums and group meetings in newly upgraded facilities. This year’s Central California Invasive Weed Symposium will be presented in the Great room of the Little Creek House where amenities include speaker’s computer podium with projector and sound equipment, Wi-Fi, seating for 60, two restrooms, kitchenette and outdoor patio tables in a scenic setting. Lunch time barbeque will be held on the Orchard Pavilion at the Al Smith House at the crest of a grassed slope over looking forest canopy and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
